There's a saying that anything in excess is harmful. Well, that's absolutely true in the case of tomatoes too. If you are consuming too much of tomatoes, then be wary as it may lead to some adverse affects for your body.
These Are Some Adverse Effects Of Tomatoes If Eaten In Excess
Acid Reflux
As you know, tomatoes are acidic in nature. So, after eating too many tomatoes, you can experience heartburn or acid reflux due to excess gastric acid. If you suffer from digestive stress or have symptoms of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) then you should go easy on tomatoes. Please take notes.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, people who have advanced chronic kidney disease must limit their intake of potassium and mind you, tomatoes are rich in it. Also, the high levels of oxalate, when eaten in excess, can lead to kidney issues. Please consult your doctor for more details.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Tomatoes, given their irritating skins and seeds, may cause irritable bowel syndrome. And if you already have IBS, experts believe that tomatoes can also trigger bloating. Tomatoes are also one of the most common food allergens that may cause intestinal problems. So, it is best advised to eat tomatoes in moderation.
Consistent research shows that excessive consumption of tomatoes can result in swelling and pain in the joints as they are packed with an alkaloid called solanine. The Solanine is responsible for building up calcium in the tissues and it later leads to inflammation.
Allergies And Infection
The compound called histamine in tomatoes may lead to skin rashes or allergic reactions. Hence, if you are allergic to tomatoes, then you may experience swelling of mouth, tongue and face, sneezing and throat infection among others. Meanwhile tomatoes can also cause allergic contact dermatitis. The skin becomes severely itchy and swollen just by touching the fruit in case if you are allergic.
Lycopenodermia
For the unversed, Lycopenodermia is a condition of the skin. This happens when the excess amount of lycopene leads to discoloration of the skin. Lycopene is good for your body but when consumed more than 75 mg per day, then one can suffer from lycopenodermia.

While several parts of the world, including India, have been dealing with new waves of the coronavirus. And one of the biggest challenges has also been the new strains. The government on Wednesday announced that a new coronavirus variant has been detected in India.
This comes amid a new surge of Covid-19 cases across several states in the country. The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics (INSACOG), a grouping of 10 National Laboratories that was established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfares, found the variant while carrying out genomic sequencing and analysis of circulating Covid-19 viruses.
—— The INSACOG said that it found an increase in samples with E484Q and L452R mutations — a double mutant variant with two mutations. This means two mutations coming together in the same variant creating a new one.
—— Both the E484Q and L452R mutations have been detected earlier, but the ‘double mutant variant’ is novel to India.
—— The E484Q has been detected in 11 countries earlier including US, UK, Denmark and Switzerland. The L452R mutation has also been detected previously in 22 countries including New Zealand, Sweden, Australia.
—— The new variant has been categorised as a ‘variant of concern’ or VOCs.
—— The new ‘double mutant variant’ and 771 VOCs were found in samples collected from 18 states across the country.
—— Hindustan Times quoted National Centre for Disease Control’s director Dr Sujeet Kumar Singh as saying, “We have seen this double mutant E484Q and L452R. This is the double mutant which has been observed in 206 samples in Maharashtra and then in a varied number in Delhi, nine samples, and so on.” He also said the variant was seen in samples from Nagpur.
—— While the new Indian variant of the Covid-19 virus has been detected, the experts have said there was not enough evidence or numbers to show that this was behind the latest rise in Covid-19 cases in India.
—— The INSACOG tested a total of 10,787 positive samples from states and union territories among which 771 VOCs were found.
—— Data shared by the government showed that among the samples 736 were positive for the UK variant, 34 for the South African variant and one for the Brazilian variant.
—— Experts have suggested a public health response of “increased testing, comprehensive tracking of close contacts, prompt isolation of positive cases & contacts as well as treatment as per National Treatment Protocol” by the states/UTs as standard procedure to tackle the situation.
It is significant that we keep bugs like cockroaches away from places where we make, consume or store food. These places include the dining table, pantry, kitchen and most importantly refrigerator. Cockroaches are basically omnivores that ingest both plants and meat. They are known to attack food and spread bacteria through cross-contamination. This means that they pick up bacteria while eating something and then the same bacteria prevail in their guts. Not just this, they also leave their waste products on your supplies. Hence, we know how dangerous they are for our well-being. Getting rid of them is not that easy, however, some of these home remedies can help. One important thing to remember is, do remove all your food items from the refrigerator before trying any of these remedies.
Boric Acid
You need to be careful while using boric acid near your food, as it is not an organic substance, but an inorganic insecticide, which keeps cockroaches from eating or stepping around.
Steps
Either simply dust a thin layer of boric acid in the corners of the refrigerator where they hide.
Or, make a solution using 1 tablespoon of boric powder, 1 tablespoon of milk and ½ tablespoon of wheat flour in a bowl.
Mix well, and pour 1-2 tablespoon of this solution where you think they hide. Repeat this after every 2-3 months
One of the most easily available cleaning ingredients found almost in every household is baking soda. Since it is acidic in nature, it kills and removes insects and bugs effectively.
Steps
In a bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of white sugar.
Mix well and dust the mixture in the cockroach-infested areas.
Use this method until all the cockroaches go away from your refrigerator.
Catnip Spray
Catnip, scientifically known as Nepata cataria is simply a herb that contains properties that irritate certain animals and insects. It especially bothers cockroaches as they are highly sensitive to this chemical. If you have a cat at home, make sure to keep her away while trying this home remedy.
Steps
You will find catnip leaves in any nursery. Once you get them, boil around 8-10 leaves in 2 cups of water.
Cover with a lid and let it boil for another 5-7 minutes.
Allow the solution to cool down and then store in a spray bottle.
Once done, spray well in all the cockroach-infested areas.
Bay leaves are commonly found in every kitchen of Indian household, as it is a key ingredient in most of the Indian dishes. The strong odour is hard for cockroaches to tolerate, that’s why we can use it to get rid of them.
Steps
All you need to do is take 5-7 bay leaves, crush it in your hands and place them at all possible entry points of cockroaches.
Repeat this every time you see them coming and in a couple of weeks cockroaches will leave your refrigerator.
Peppermint Oil Spray
Peppermint oil is one of the most effective repellents for cockroaches out there. They remove them in the best way possible, without actually killing them, which is great since we have to use it in the refrigerator.
Steps
Take a spray bottle, fill it half with water and 20-25 drops of peppermint oil.
Spray the solution in all the corners you suspect cockroaches.

After all the talk around India's opening combinations during the recent T20I series, Kohli said there were no "issues or doubts" about Sharma and Dhawan opening in ODIs, and that they had been "amazing" in the past few years.
"There are a couple of things that internally we have discussed that we're going to keep an eye on," Kohli said during a press conference on the eve of the ODI opener. "As far as the opening combination is concerned, yeah, Shikhar and Rohit will definitely start; when it comes to one-day cricket I don't think there's any issues or doubts over Rohit or Shikhar opening together. They have been amazing for us for the past few years. Yeah, so we'll start with that and other factors… it will be interesting because there are a few younger players who are getting an opportunity in the one-day set-up for the first time, so I am really keen to see how they go about executing their skills against a very, very strong England side."
Dhawan had opened in all three games the last time India played ODIs - in Australia - and averaged 40 with scores of 74, 30 and 16. He then played the domestic T20s and one-day tournament in India for Delhi, and even though he registered a string of low scores of 0, 0, 6 and 0 across the two formats, he ended the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy with a knock of 153 off 118 balls, followed by a 50-ball 44.
"We are going to back our players and try and give them a good mental space."
Kohli on KL Rahul's ongoing lean patch
Over the last three years, the Sharma-Dhawan opening combination has been the third-most prolific in the world with a tally of 1479 runs, only behind Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy at the top (1831) and Aaron Finch and David Warner second (1512).
The India squad for the ODIs also saw the return of Rishabh Pant, who had been left out of the Australia ODIs, and maiden call-ups for Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya. With a packed middle order comprising other options in Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, and Pant roaring back to form in recent times, it again raises the question whether or not an out-of-form KL Rahul will get a place in the XI. What may not work in his favour are his recent scores of 14, 0, 0 and 1 while opening in the T20Is against England and that he had crossed 15 only once - with a 76 in the second ODI in Sydney - while batting at No. 5 in the three ODIs in Australia. Kohli did not confirm if Rahul would get to start in the XI or not, but said the management would back such players and give them a good mental space.

"When an individual is going through a tough phase - it's not like he forgets how to play, it's just that mental clarity isn't as good at the time - at that time if you know what things are being said and you're being told you're out of form, then you're bringing in another external factor into your system," Kohli said of Rahul's ongoing lean patch. "It's a simple game: you have to watch the ball and react and hit the ball. You have to be in the moment and all this outside talk, to be very honest, is completely nonsense.
"From the first to the last day of my career, all this outside talk has been nonsense to me. Who says what and why about a player, what's the motive behind it, what's the thinking behind it, it's better that all that remains outside because we're not going to let it enter our system even in the future. We are going to back our players and try and give them a good mental space."
In a year that's largely being used by teams to fine-tune their line-ups for the T20 World Cup in India later this year, India and England will now play three ODIs on March 23, 26 and 28 in Pune before the required players from both squads move to the IPL bubble for the tournament that will be played from April 9 to May 30.
India will then travel to England for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand from June 18 to 22 in Southampton before their five-Test series against England from august 4 to September 10. Kohli said while "scheduling is something that's not in our control," the players "need to be spoken to and consulted with all around" to strike a balance between scheduling and workload management, especially because of the recent restrictions the Covid-19 pandemic has brought with it and the mental toll it takes on players who move from one bubble to another.
"Along the way, scheduling and workload is something everyone will have to be very aware of and keep an eye out for, especially in today's day and age where you just don't know where restrictions might come in," he said. "Even in the future, you might have to continue to play in bubbles. I think it's very important to consider how much cricket you are playing and it's not just the physical side of things but mental side of things as well.
"The players need to be spoken to and consulted with all around. Otherwise it will be a case of whoever can last through the difficult times like these… players, if not, move away and someone else replaces that player. I don't think that's healthy for a cricket system and a cricket culture moving forward which we definitely want to make stronger and stronger going into the future for India."
