The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released a list of 148 candidates for the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly election.

Senior BJP leader and party's national vice-president Mukul Roy, who once a key leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), will contest the polls from the Krishnanagar Uttar seat.
The other prominent faces that feature in this list includes Rahul Sinha and Asim Sarkar. Besides them, the list also has 11 MLAs and one MP.
In a press release, the BJP said names of candidates for the Bengal election were finalised on Wednesday during the party's Central Election Committee in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by BJP president JP Nadda and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, among other senior party leaders.

The BJP's candidate list pertains to Assembly seats where elections will held in Phase 5, 6, 7and 8. The party has already announced names of its candidates for seats where voting will be held in the first four phases.
On Wednesday, the BJP had released names of four candidates for the third phase of West Bengal Assembly election.
The list included actor Paapia Adhikari.
Besides him, the BJP named former Congress leader Anupam Ghosh, who joined the saffron party a couple of years ago, as its candidate for the Jagatballavpur constituency in Howrah.
While Paapia Adhikari will contest from the Uluberia Dakshin seat in Howrah district, Chandan Mandal and Bidhan Parui are the BJP's candidates from Baruipur Purba and Falta, respectively. Both the seats fall in the South 24 Parganas district.
This time, the West Bengal Assembly election is being held in eight phases. Voting for the first phase will be held on March 27 and for the last phase on April 29.
Votes for all eight phases will be counted on May 2.
